video producer's answer to the concept of "Lost in Translation' by
Jerry Wilson Vegas Buzz [AUGUST 10, 2007 - HOLLYWOOD AND LAS VEGAS -
VEGAS BUZZ NEWS] The Japanese have long been known for making
everything their own, Western culture, art, dance, design,
technology, you name it. Usually the Japanese versions are much
better than the original. Except of course where language is
involved. As Sophia Coppola's movie "Lost in translation" suggests,
when it comes to Japanese - English translation there is more than
meets the ear. The Japanese version of Snakes on a plane, is actually
quite hilarious even with the great deal of material that is
inevitably lost in translation. The prime example of things getting
lost in translation starts with the title itself. 'Snake Flight,'
conveniently abbreviated from 'Snakes on a Plane,' for some
inscrutable Japanese convenience. Maybe it just fits the logo better.
Or maybe fits Japanese aesthetic sensibilities better in terms of the
movie logo lay-out. English Logo Japanese Logo While great license
was taken by the subtitlle producer Wilson Productions
(wilprovideo.com japaneselv.com), a Japanese video conversion and web
video production and syndication outfit, the intent of the Japanese,
and the flavor of the trailer comes through, including the part at
the end that says "You won't be able to stay in your seat." This was
a direct translation that happened to fit. Wilson *...* From:
